Eersterivierstrand is a small, unspoiled coastal village on the Eastern Cape coastline of South Africa, situated within the Tsitsikamma region — the eastern gateway to the scenic Garden Route. The village sits where the indigenous Tsitsikamma forest meets the Indian Ocean, offering one of the most biodiverse and visually dramatic coastlines in the country.
Located approximately 30 minutes (30 km) from Storms River Village, 150 km from Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha / Nelson Mandela Bay), and a scenic 2.5-hour drive from the Addo Elephant National Park, Eersterivierstrand is a strategic base for exploring the Eastern Cape's most celebrated natural attractions.
The waters off Eersterivierstrand are home to bottlenose and common dolphins year-round, Cape clawless otters, and a wide variety of seabirds. Between June and November, southern right whales and humpback whales migrate along this stretch of coast, frequently visible from the shore without the need for a boat.
